New-generation signalling for the Caen tramway

New-generation signalling for the Caen tramway
published onNovember 9, 2017

Following the successful deployment of rail signalling for the Luxembourg and Nice tramways, Mobility is to install the signalling system for Tramcité, which operates the Caen tramway.

Mobility has designed a new-generation, safety computer-based Railway Safety Signalling system, which offers numerous advantages compared with the conventional system (with N.S1 relays). This system is safer and more compact, and is also more cost-effective and easier to deploy.

The Caen project is part of plans to replace the existing rubber-tyred trams with conventional trams. The system is to be implemented for three tram lines with a shared section, and a depot. This means that no fewer than nine manoeuvring areas and a storage and maintenance centre must be created.

Commissioning is scheduled for September 2019.
