Overhaul of the Geneva bypass

Overhaul of the Geneva bypass
published onApril 13, 2017

The Swiss Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) has awarded Mobility a contract to overhaul the majority of the twenty-year-old operational and safety equipment (emergency call boxes) for the tunnels and underpasses on the Geneva bypass, heading towards Lausanne.

This equipment is reaching the end of its life and becoming difficult to maintain, due to the unavailability of certain items.

The project covers a 9100-metre section of the bypass, with traffic estimated at 74,000 vehicles/day. The main works involved are the Confignon tunnel, the Chèvres underpass, the Vernier tunnel and the Halle 6 underpass.

Mobility’s teams will work on a number of technical aspects, including energy distribution, LED lighting, ventilation, signage, monitoring and communication facilities, and the management system. The work will be carried out at night, without closing the road, during the course of 2018.
