RER C railway line on track for modernisation
published onFebruary 3, 2017

The RER C express railway line is due to undergo extensive renovations in the coming years. SNCF Réseau is undertaking major infrastructure renewal work, including 180 km of overhead catenary systems from south of the Bibliothèque François-Mitterrand station to south of Brétigny.

The line will be equipped with a high-performance catenary system capable of absorbing traffic increases over the next 20 years, allowing for temperature differences of up to 70°C, compared with 40°C today.

For the first time in its history, SNCF Réseau is outsourcing this work. Mobility will be heavily involved in the project, which has been entrusted to the RC² consortium (comprising TSO Caténaires, Mobility, ETF and SETEC Ferroviaire) at a value of around €300 million. Scheduled for 2017-2024, the work will involve more than 50% of the currently qualified catenary line workers in the Ile-de-France area. The Mobility team, whose expertise will be brought to bear, is proud of its involvement in this challenging project.
