A new addition to the fleet!
Mobility has just purchased a brand new road/rail truck. This one-of-a-kind vehicle is a major asset in the installation, renewal and maintenance of overhead catenary systems.
In early 2016, Mobility placed an order with Mecanofer for a road/rail truck. After a year and a half of design work and manufacturing, we took delivery of the vehicle last month. This unique item of road/rail equipment takes the form of a Renault 26-tonne three-way tipper truck, with a rear-mounted overhanging Palfinger railway crane. Its various configurations enable it to be used for a wide range of activities.
For instance, the crane can be used for the installation or removal of support structures, brackets and any other components associated with railway works (e.g. plug rails, crosspieces). The clamshell bucket can be used for earthworks, such as excavation, replacement of ballast, moving excavated material and creating dykes. The skip's substantial capacity is an advantage for this type of activity, as it ensures a high level of autonomy. Lastly, the installation of an aerial platform at the top of the arm will serve to reach heights that are difficult to reach with our current equipment.
This truck, through its versatility, is a significant asset in the installation, renewal and maintenance of overhead catenary systems. With a single machine, our teams will be able to perform all of the most common tasks associated with this sector of activity.
