Neuchâtel: light at the end of the tunnel
Last 5 October marked an important milestone for the signalling and ventilation projects in the underground tunnels beneath Neuchâtel. Overnight, the final works completed this year were integrated within a new management system, the long-term aim being higher safety levels in the event of incidents.
The project began in January 2015 with a preparatory works phase, with all subsequent works phases then conducted without further disrupting traffic, also keeping the worksite operational throughout.
Three weeks of night closures on this section will then be required in order to conduct final testing of the safety equipment installed in the tunnels, which will in turn be fully re-opened to traffic next December.
