Our eco-responsible vegetable garden celebrates its first birthday!
Created in the spring of 2017 with start-up Ma Ville Verte, the Léonard garden has shown highly encouraging results after its first year of existence.
The vegetable garden comprises 12 beds, in which tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, courgettes, green beans and aromatic herbs are grown. A micro-spray low-pressure drip system ensures regular watering while keeping consumption low.
A virtuous circle
The vegetables are tended by staff volunteers and then cooked in the company restaurant. Composters have been installed behind the kitchens. The compost is then reused in the garden to enrich the soil. The staff members have thus learnt practical gardening skills as well as theoretical details about the garden’s contents.
A positive impact on site biodiversity
The garden attracts numerous bees from the nearby hives, ensuring that the vegetables are pollinated. The beekeeper has also reported a 20% increase in the yield of the hives.
