Switzerland: railway modernisation in the Vaud canton
Following an increase in usage of nearly 90% in the last ten years, Transports Montreux-Vevey-Riviera SA (MVR SA) is updating its infrastructure in order to increase the frequency of its trains to every 15 minutes by 2019.
MVR SA has entrusted Mobility with renewing the contact lines for stations between Vevey and Blonay. The stretch of metre-gauge railway line linking Vevey to Les Pléiades is 10.5 km long and powered by a 900 V DC supply.
As the line is on a steep gradient, some of the posts will be transported by helicopter.
Work will begin in December and is scheduled to last five years. There is a crucial first milestone, however, as the new passing loop for the Gilamont and Saint-Légier stations must be commissioned in time for the Fête des Vignerons (wine-growers festival) of 2019, which takes place every 25 years!
